Taking Photos in Villages

Posted date:  August 28, 2013  |  No comment

Villages offer lots of interesting picture opportunities. Calendars and jigsaw puzzles often have pretty village scenes, and sometimes list the location. Take a trip and visit several villages at one time.

Outdoor shots can be of places such as shops, old street signs, architectural details of a building, or war memorials. Pubs often have interesting signs, shoot from a distance with a long lens for best results. Villagers may be willing to pose, or take pictures of daily activities such as crossing the street or chatting with neighbors. (Ask permission first.)

Flowers are a category by themselves. Many villages have wonderful displays, especially those that are trying to win awards. Shots could be wide-angle and include background such as houses or streets. Or, use a telephoto lens and focus just on the flowers.

Don’t forget indoor shots. The employees at local shops may be willing to be photographed doing routine (but interesting) tasks. Be sure to ask first, and include shop background in the action photograph. The inside of the pub may have interesting locals. Use a table as a camera rest for ambient light shots.

Village activities such as rummage or cake sales are another opportunity. Use a telephoto lens for candid pictures of the people, or wide-angle to see all the booths. Shots taken in ambient light have more atmosphere.

Once you have a collection of pictures, consider making them into postcards and offering them for sale in local shops or the post office.

These articles mentions some professional photography tips, and remember not all of them are about cameras, or holding cameras, but they can help you get those great looking shots. A vantage provides advantage Have you seen professional photographers carrying around small ladders at weddings? It’s because the vantage matters. Just a little difference of angle of taking the photo from top or from below, can change how the photo ultimately looks – because it is […]
